SILICON BELLY
Sound-Sculpture, 2025
Silicon, metal, magnets, wires, 8-channel audio, sensors, electricity
Handmade speaker-systems (transducers) are cast into a semitransparent silicon structure. When voltage is applied, these circuits generate sounds, turning the entire sculpture into a resonating membrane – a body with a ‘sounding skin’. The visitor is surrounded by an uncanny acoustic field – a sensitive listening space that requires our concentrated perception. It is precisely this unobtrusive presence that ultimately unfolds a demanding intensity.
The material silicon points to the omnipresence of the digital sphere and its pervasive control over our daily life—where Silicon Valley dictates and reshapes our bodies and desires. Between skin and screen, silicon becomes the medium of control, connection and artifice.
