Peter Kutin explores sound across genres and at diverse intersections.
His work has been widely exhibited, commissioned, performed, screened and featured at various notable events. His often site-specific works are characterised by blending elements of installations, kinetic sculptures, light art, DIY culture and electroacoustic music.
Kutin’s in-depth exploration of how sound and visual stimuli interdepend and interact has expanded his artistic territory beyond music, resulting in a body of experimental films, multimedia-scenarios and stage-performances. In 2025, his debut feature film, The Sound of Musick [sic!], is slated for completion.
Kutin received numerous awards, scholarships and residencies. In 2019, his kinetic sound-sculpture Torso#1 was honoured with the Prix Ars-Electronica. In 2016, along with the composer Christina Kubisch and his long time collaborator Florian Kindlinger, he received the esteemed Karl-Szucka award for the composition Desert Bloom.
Kutin composed scores and sound-environments for several arthouse-film productions, many of which premiered and received accolades at some of the world’s most significant film festivals.
Critic’s have described Kutin’s work as ’undeniably effective’ (The Wire Magazine), and ’not only good but important’ (A closer listen). He is a founding member of the label Ventil-Records, the concert series Velak-Gala (platform for experimental music), the RealDeal Festival and the ’sonic-laboratory‘ Westbahnstudios in Vienna.
